Sometimes I feel like...

[7:39 pm]

a prostitute. I have to be under people's beck and call. And to all those bosses, I have to make the impossible, possible, no matter what I do.

And not to mention, even when you are sick. I am feeling under the weather because of the sudden climate change and lack of rest. Went to the Doc today and get a bag-full of medicine. The medicine, when taken, will cause drowiness..so, how can you work if you are half-awake most of the time?

And no, I can't take any time off..as I have to cover my friend who is away.

Haiz..what to do? I am a slave to the cause..

Geomancy..believe it or not..

[8:10 pm]

I wasn't into geomancy until I started work. You just have to believe that somehow or rather it will change your fortune. For starters, my original table layout was not ideal as it "exposed" me to alot of "negative" elements.

After much contemplation, I changed the layout. With my back facing the wall and the partition separating me from the main door and boss's door, so that when anyone walk in, they won't notice me and shoot those additional "arrows" at me..haha..From the looks of it, it worked extremely well and my work fortune changed for the better.

Today, one of my colleague who had accumulated some expertise in the art of fengshui, gave me some tips to further improve my work environment and loaned me his fengshui CD for learning purposes.

Now, whenever I am free, I can take a look at the CD to see what I can do to improve my fortunes, career and hopefully, my life.

Friday-Food, Desserts and Party night

[7:38 pm]

I can be very peculiar about food and service while ambience features low on my priority list. Met up with "Dr" Tan and Ms Tay for dinner last evening at Esplanade and had dinner at this Korean BBQ restaurant called Jang Shou Korean BBQ.

Located at the Esplanade, this restaurant serves authentic korean food and its not like Seoul Garden, believe me. Had the Jang Shou's special, which was honey-marinated pork ribs bbq'd using the standard hotplate. The interesting thing is, they do the bbq for you, right in front of your eyes and serve it to you. I highly recommend this to you all as this is a must-try.

The other one dish to try is the Noodle Casserole with Mushroom. Essentially, this is a steamboat using Korean broth. The minimum portion for ordering is 2 and the broth is really fantastic, sans the lack of spice. Korean food are well known for their fiery hot food and this can be disappointing to us spice-loving foodies. We requested for additional spice to be added to the broth to make it better and believe me, the spice does make it tasty. And did I mention the Kimchi is excellent? It is a must-try!!!

The service is acceptable, but it can take a while if the restaurant is packed. Expect to pay about 20-30 bucks per pax. My verdict? It's good to go for authentic Korean food, only for once in a while as the menu has a pretty limited selection.

Our next stop was The V Tea Room. This was my second visit and it is a good chill-out place to go to after a hard-day of work and it's a good alternative to beer. Their excellent selection of teas and their must-try dessert cakes is the reason I keep going back this place. A must-try is their signature premium melt cakes, which I must say is a sinful indulgence. The cake literally melts in your mouth!!! I don't know how they do it, but kudos to the chef. The other must try is their signature Barrel Whisky Mud Cake, which essentially, is mud cake with whisky. A very sinful indulgence, but one which I would gladly part my money for.

As this was the festive season, they were selling their home-made cookies. Had a sampling of their cookies and my recommendation is to go for their floral range cookies. They use real flowers to make the cookies and the fragrance just literally burst in your mouth when you eat it. Bought 2 tins of the fast-selling madagascar orchid and lavender cookies to munch on and ordered the Hae Bee Hiam cookies, yes Hae Bee Hiam cookies!!, for the festive season.

My verdict of this place? Very good and the service provided by the staff is excellent. Go there early on weekends as it can be pretty packed. The V Tea Room is located inside Esplanade Mall, next to Max Brenner's Chocolate House.

My next stop was St James Powerhouse. Being a sucker for retro-music, I decided to check this place out with my uni-mates. The cover-charge was acceptable at 20 bucks and gives you entrance at any of the dance halls. The bad thing about this place is the lack of proper layout. Being a premier dance club, I expected all the dance-halls to be linked with one another just like MOS, which sad to say wasn't so. Being not connected to one another, one would have to take a short walk along the perimeter of the building to get to the other dance halls. The queue for members and re-entry guests was long and you have to wait more than 30 minutes under open air to get in. I understand the concern about fire-safety,etc, but if they can't provide a simple thing like a shelter to protect the queuing clubbers from rain, then it will lose alot of them when the weather turns ape-shit.

The internal layout of dance hall can be improved. The bar should be moved to the rear of the dance hall as many people tend to congregate at the counter, which was located near the entrance. As such, many people had to squeeze through the alcohol-laden bar drinkers to get to the dance floor. One silver-lining, the chill-out place along the exterior of the dance floors provided a good place to relax over a beer or two. But if it rains, while, that's another story though.

My verdict? It's just a place to see and be seen that's all. I prefer sticking to Zouk.

That's all for my wonderful Friday night's out. Have a good weekend people!!

Can't clear off again..haiz..

[7:01 pm]

Nobody's in the office tomorrow and Big Boss's requirement is that one of the junior fellas have to hold the fort, and who is the one available? Yours truly lor..and yours truly wanted to take some time off to recharge.

I have been going back to work for 2 consecutive weekends and coming 3rd one too and the number of off-in-lieu is accumulating again. How am I going to clear them? Arghhhh...frustrated man!!!

The amount of work is piling up and sometime I wish that I can have the arms of an octopus and the processing power of a supercomputer to multi-task more stuff. The only silver-lining in the cloud? Boss told me he would be sending me to India for a week in Mar on a staff trip to learn from our counterparts. One thing I learnt? Play everything by the ear and only take it when I am handed the air-ticket and the black and white instructions.

Making your needs known..

[7:19 pm]

Talked to boss the other day. I wanted to make known my aspirations, my preferred postings, so that he will be able to fight for my cause when my rotation is due.

Being desk-bound has its perks, but I didn't want to be stuck at it forever. I rather go back out to the field, go for overseas training, do the things I was trained for, and finish my service requirements before I embark on a second career;flying.

Taking a Masters will only come when I am a year away from leaving this job, for my boss has explained that for a MBA, it will only last 3 years before it becomes obsolete. Rather, I should take up professional courses to improve myself, which I think its a good idea..I was thinking about taking up another language, maybe French.

I figured I should start planning for my next 5 years while I still have a steady stream of income, before I leave. So, saving up those moolah and making it work for me through correct investments is the best bet. A long-time buddy whom I was talking to this afternoon was sounding out about setting up our long time dream, a cafe.

One have so many needs at our age, but if we don't learn to rationalise and control them, we won't be able to save up and enjoy the finer things in life. Guess, being older really means taking up alot of responsibility, responsibility for yourself, and in the future, your other half.

Have you ever met someone..

[8:22 pm]

who is in the same predicament as you?..and able to articulate it into words which you aint been able to articulate at all?

I did. Came across this gal's blog one fine day and since then I have found it to be an interesting read. She has managed to express what ever I wanted to say, but couldn't articulate into. How coincidental can that be?

Oh well, guess the cold weather just makes you feel lonely. In this type of weather, it is nice to be able to cuddle with that special someone under the blankets with a bottle of wine. I just hate the thought of being alone, seeing most of my friends around me getting married.

I have always live with a belief that the ONE which I meet will be the last. But somehow or rather, I am always end up being taken for granted..guess I always seem to be attracting the wrong type of attention.

On well, hopefully this can be a good year..and find the ONE..

Whats your Happy Ending?

[9:10 pm]

All of us yearn for a happy ending. Mine would be with a beautiful wife, an apartment with a fantastic view of the sea, a couple of kids (looking at 3), few fishes and doing the things I love (read: flying).

A fairy tale wedding for the wife (without breaking the bank of course!!), an apartment in without all those noisy motorcycles blaring through the night (beautifully done up in a resort style), that's enough for me.

I just yearn for a peaceful and quiet life, able to live my dream of flying in the wild blue yonder, amongst the clouds and angels. What would be your happy ending?

Time to explore other options??

[10:03 pm]

Is it time to keep my options open and know more gals instead of waiting for her?

Buddies around me have told me that I should keep my options open for waiting for one is like keeping the doors closed. Friends around are clamouring to help this poor soul by introducing their single colleagues and friends.

Well, what can I say, thanks guys!! I am meeting up with one of them this weekend...haha..modern way to match-making..
