My photography exploits..NDP 2007 Preview

[9:02 pm]

Nothing much..since I am involved in this year's NDP somewhere or another, might as well fully exploit it and practice my photography skills..might not be as good as the pros in the forum, but getting close..

Guess this is the only enjoyment I can derive out of my mundane life, besides running..so enjoy them!!!

The solemn wait in the Convention Hall prior to the uncasing of Colours at the foyer

The Colours uncased..now waiting for the long march to the Form-Up Point.

The pace-setters of any parade; the military drummers

The Air Force Guard-of-Honor

The Police Guard-of-Honor

The State Flag flypast, escorted by 4 Apache Attack Helicopters

"Split Now!!!!" Salute to the Nation..

Don't worry, it's not too loud..just enjoy the beautiful flypast..

Commemorating 40 years of NS..We may not remember your sacrifices, but we will never forget.

The mass display

The "jelly fishes" moving out to the floating platform
AND
The Highlights of every NDP: The Fireworks Display

The Ultimate Luxury...

[11:05 pm]

is not a Volkswagen Golf GTI, even though I can't wait to get my hands on it..

nor is it a Nikon AF-S 18-200mm VR lens for my SLR..

but TIME for yourself.

Have you ever wondered that the best luxury in life is just that simple? TIME for yourself?

Many a time we are slogging our butts off and partying so hard with our hard-earned cash that we simply do not have the luxury of sleeping in late, having that long, lazy lunch over the afternoon or even simply hide in a corner to read a book for a few hours without those mobile device ringing its head off.

To me, yesterday was the most luxurious time I had..for once, do the following;

1. I did not have to go for my pre-dawn runs,
2. I can sleep till the sun is literally warming my butt,
3. I can go for breakfast with my mom,
4. I can play with my SLR.

It has really been a while since I could do all in one day. Normally, it would be a slice of the above at any given day. And that is something I realised I seldom had the luxury to do when I started working.

With so many things coming up, hope that at least I can have some of this luxury once in a while.

A 10 km run

[11:51 am]

1st km - slow and steady jog to warm up the legs

2nd km - gaining momentum, mr stone too far ahead for me to follow his pace.

3rd km - maintaining the pace, lost visual with mr stone.

4th km - slowing down, some runners have overtaken me, heading for the turn-around point at Laguna country club. Still pushing ahead..at least there are some motivation pushing me on..heh..mr stone on his return journey.

5th km - finally, the turn around point is in sight, the washrooms at the National Sailing Center. Hit the concrete bollards, stopped for a drink of water, splashed some of those cooling water to cool down the sweaty body and I am off..albeit walking for a while to relieve the aching muscles..

6th km - the pace is slow, but steady..the legs are aching but I am pushing on..

7th km - argh, slowed to a walk just short of the jetty..chastising myself for being such a weakling. Guilt overcomes me and I started on a slow jog towards the end point.

8th km - the muscles warms up sufficiently for me to quicken my pace. Met some colleagues who are training for next Sunday's Mizuno Run. I push on..

9th km - Ok, Mr Weakling slows down and the inner child tells him to can the weakling attitude and finish the damn run.

10th km - Finally, the end point is in sight..just ran through and stopped. Finally, the run is completed...

"I could never be so lucky again" - Jimmy Doolittle (Tokyo Raider-1942)

[12:01 pm]

Above is the tagline used by one of the greatest pilot and commander of WW2. He attributed his wartime success to his great fortune who happened to be at the right place and at the right time.

Looking back on the quarter century I have been on this big blue planet, I can say that Lady Luck has been very kind to me. For starters, I managed to get my university education fully paid for, even though the odds of me getting it versus the other candidates was pretty slim.

Then it was my 3 years of pure sweat and blood in university, scraping through university..still clearing my second-year maths till the very last semester..I always wondered; How the hell did I manage to clear my maths?..Guess it all boils down to luck..

Next was my appointment to my current job. The initial phase was hard as I struggled to learn everything and anything in the shortest possible time. I was fortunate enough to have 2 good bosses and many old-timers who didn't hesistate to guide and correct me through the dark valley.

Like Jimmy Doolittle, I have been fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time. Guess I have earned the confidence of the senior management enough to be given a bigger tasking over the rest of my peers. The going can be pretty tough at times and there have been instances I felt so max'd out that I felt like throwing in the towel..but guess my stubborn side just pushed me on. I am just taking it in the positive light that in the end of it all, I am discovering for myself how much my bandwidth can be.

An ex-classmate of mine agreed that I didn't go through as much crap as her when we were younger and that I seemed to lead a charmed life..actually I didn't notice about it till I really thought about it.

Well..one can never be lucky forever, I guess I just have to work harder..
